Carn screens drama about water
privatisation
12.03.15
A FILM outlining what
happens when a huge multi-national tries to
privatise a community's water supply ("including
even the rain") will be screened next week in
Carndonagh.
'Even the Rain', written by Paul Laverty and
directed by Iciar Bollain, tells the story of a film
crew who arrive in Bolivia to make a movie about
colonisation and find themselves caught up in what
became known as the Bolivian Water Wars. |
It depicts a David and
Goliath grassroots battle watched by the film-makers
who get drawn into a "cauldron of emotions" as a "a
modern-day colonisation" plays out before them. The
challenge to take a position "becomes almost
unbearable".
The free screening of the 2010 drama has been
organised by Inishowen environmental group Celebrate
Water in association with Carndonagh Library.
"At once beautiful and disturbing, provocative and
inspiring, the film and the story it tells is
eminently relevant to current questions around water
and access to water on the island of Ireland and on
the planet as a whole," said a spokesperson. |
