Cinema glosses over 'Fifty Shades'
row
01.04.15
A CINEMA that was
wrongly accused of censoring this year's raunchiest
film has glossed over the episode by painting its
exterior 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.
Buncrana Cinema was left reeling after a press
report, suggesting it would not show the film on
moral grounds, went viral around the world in
February.
The not-for-profit cinema had in fact sought to
screen the movie, starring Jamie Dornan, but was
turned down by the distributors due to insufficient
capacity. |

The committee behind
the cinema, has now given the exterior of their
110-year old building a makeover, using various
shades of grey.
"New paint job. Just so you don't hear it from a
paper first, we were close to fifty different shades
but we were told (the) use of that many colours is
banned," it said in a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post
today.
The new paintwork has gone down a treat with the
cinema's many followers - some of whom twigged that
it was in fact a joke - fitting for the day that's
in it. |
Committee chairman Adam
Rory Porter said the inaccurate reports that went
viral in February had led to a negative portrayal of
the area.
But the group has moved on from the controversy and
they say more people than ever know about their
traditional movie house.
Adam also warmly thanked the cinema's supporters,
the local parish and local council for helping them
in their efforts to keep the facility open for the
benefit of the local community.
“I suppose there aren't too many of us
community-run, not-for-profit cinemas around," said
Adam.
"After all the insanity of what happened, we hope
people enjoy our April Fool's joke. And, there’s
always Fifty Shades Two,” he quipped. |
