Tributes flow ahead of Garda State
funeral

TRIBUTES have flowed
for Garda Anthony Golden as the nation mourns the
loss of another fallen officer.
Retired and serving gardaí, members of the emergency
services and friends have joined ordinary citizens
throughout the country including Donegal in an
outpouring of grief at the horrific killing.
And a serving garda officer, stricken by the
cold-blooded nature of the murder, described
shedding "tears for you" while expressing "fear for
myself".
Obituaries website RIP.ie has been inundated with
tributes from people wishing to extend heartfelt
sympathies to Gda Golden's wife Nicola and the
couple's three young children Lucy, Alex and Andrew.
Gda Golden is also mourned by his parents Breege and
David, brothers David, Kenneth, Patrick and Seán and
sister Mary. His State funeral takes place in Co
Louth tomorrow. |
Navan Garda Station's
Unit D wrote: "Sincerest condolences to the Golden
family and all Anthony's extended loved ones and his
colleagues in the Louth Garda Division. We cherish
the memory of our fallen colleague. Rest in peace."
A Letterkenny family wrote: "Deepest sympathy to
Nicola, Lucy, Alex and Andrew and to your extended
families in Blackrock and Ballina. Saddest of days
for your comrades in An Garda Siochana. RIP."
Firefighters from the National Retained Firefighters
Association added: "Our thoughts and prayers are
with the family, friends and colleagues of Garda
Tony Golden who tragically lost his life protecting

A fellow garda member
anonymously but poignantly wrote: "I am so, so sorry
for your tragic loss. When I heard the news I just
couldn't stop crying - tears for you and fear for
myself. I guess we never know. I hope you find the
strength in each other to cope and I hope Alex, Lucy
and Andrew grow up knowing what a hero their dad
is."
Gda Golden’s remains are reposing at his home at
Sandygrove, Blackrock, Co Louth today from 3pm to
7pm. His family has requested that the house remain
private at all other times. His removal will take
place on Thursday to St Oliver Plunkett Church,
Blackrock, for State funeral mass at 12 noon
followed by burial at St Paul's, Heynestown. The
slain garda’s family requested no flowers but
donations, in lieu of flowers, could be sent to
North Louth Hospice and Homecare Foundation, The
Ramparts, Dundalk, Co Louth. |
