Local community rallies for Mark
Farren
06.05.15
THE North West
community including some well known sports stars are
rallying around soccer player Mark Farren as he
battles brain cancer.
Donations to help the former Derry City and Glenavon
striker receive life-saving treatment abroad have
been flooding in. The fund now stands at over
£30,000.
The money raised so far have included donations from
well known soccer stars including Seamus Coleman,
James McClean and David Forde.
The Greencastle man (33) has been fighting the
disease for six years.
His third bout of surgery was undertaken over a
month ago with about 90 per cent of the tumour
removed.
The invasive procedure, which indicated that the
tumour is at the highly-aggressive grade four stage,
led to some losses of speech and mobility for Mark. |
"Being no stranger to
thinking outside the box, Mark is seeking medical
assistance from an elite cancer centre in Germany,"
a statement on a special fundraising reads.
"The six-week treatment programme is his best chance
of saving or at least prolonging his life. This is
the one goal with which Mark needs our help. Any
contribution is greatly appreciated." |

Meanwhile, a myriad of
fundraisers are being organised around the popular
footballer's native Greencastle and Moville and
further afield. They include coffee mornings; a
special soccer match organised by Moville Celtic and
a gig organised by popular local band The Yetis. If
