"Heartbreaking" burden for
Inishowen families
30.07.15
INISHOWEN councillor
Albert Doherty has told a local meeting of Donegal
County Council that families whose homes were built
with defective blocks are living with a "financial,
emotional and heartbreaking burden".
The Sinn Féin representative welcomed unanimous
cross-party support for his motion pressing for a
redress scheme for all the affected families.
"The Mica/defective blocks issue is a sensitive,
financial, emotional and heartbreaking burden
visited on many homes and families in Inishowen and
the greater Donegal area," said Cllr Doherty. |
The Carndonagh based
councillor said testing and ongoing surveying of the
council's housing stock was welcome and "ought to be
a priority matter for completion by council staff".
"The continued support for Mica Action Group and
their efforts on behalf of many private residents
affected must also remain steadfast," said Cllr
Doherty.
"However the key matter for the TDs now is to
prioritise at national level the Mica/defective
blocks issue and to secure and establish financial
support now with this government and ensure all
future governments are committed to delivering a
redress scheme to affected householders," he added. |

The recent Municipal
District of Inishowen meeting also heard from
council ceo Seamus Neely. He said council management
would engage, where appropriate, with the
independent panel of experts that was recently set
up by the Government to examine Donegal's defective
blocks issue. |
