Donegal Class of 2015 collect
Leaving Certs
12.08.15
MORE than 2,000 Donegal
Leaving Certificate students including some 400 from
Inishowen are collecting their results today and
assessing what college options are open to them.
Pupils from across the peninsula are collecting
their certificates at Crana College and Scoil Mhuire
in Buncrana; Carndonagh Community School and Moville
Community College.
Donegal TD., Charlie McConalogue congratulated the
Leaving Certificate students but warned that many
would face a "huge struggle" to find accommodation
in their chosen college towns and cities.
"Every year students are forced to pay over the odds
for very basic accommodation, and in some cases have
to take on extended leases in order to secure a
house or apartment," he said. |

"Students are spending
weeks on end over the summer months travelling to
Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick in search of
accommodation, often faced with extortionate rents,
which is placing a significant financial burden on
them and their families.
“The current situation is a major source of anxiety
and stress, not only for the students who will
receive their Leaving Cert results (today) but also
for the thousands of others who are already in full
time third level education."
Deputy McConalogue, who is Fianna Fáil's
spokesperson on education, urged Education Minister
Jan O'Sullivan to publish the Higher Education
Authority report she commissioned on student
accommodation and to "start acting on the
recommendations". He said the report found
“significant shortage” in accommodation in all of
the main cities, and forecasts that the shortages
would remain over the next decade. Moville Community
