Glenswilly 1-09
Malin 0-09
Glenswilly overcame Malin on Sunday with a goal to
spare as Malin’s slow start to the season continued.
In perfect conditions in Glenswilly, Malin opened
the scoring through Matthew Byrne with a free after
Paul McLaughlin had been fouled. Glenswilly
responded with a score from Brian Farley. Dan McDaid
scored from a narrow angle shortly after when
McGrenra pushed a long ball across the goal.
Glenswilly then capitalised on two poor kickouts
from Malin with Ciaran Bonnor pointing and then the
decisive score of the game saw Christopher McMonagle
race on to a loose ball and make no mistake low past
the keeper to give the homeside the lead in an
overall poor first half from both sides. Half time
score read Glenswilly 1-02 Malin 0-02.
The second half improved with much more intensity
and a lot more scoring, Glenswilly opened the
scoring through a punched McMonagle score after a
long ball in and this was followed by a Kealan
McFadden point after good work from Oisin Crawford.
Malin responded with a Dan McDaid free from the left
after Byrne had been fouled. McDaid got another free
shortly after when Damien Harkin was brought down.
Ciaran Bonner then worked a quick free with McFadden
and recieved the ball back to score from 30 yards.
Darren McGinley added another score for the home
side with a curling effort from out on the left
after the ball had broke off Joe Gibbons. McGinley
then burst through the Malin defence and was brought
down for a penalty which he himself stepped up and
hit the post with. This spurned Malin into life and
they went on to score four in a row to get back to
only a point behind. Byrne scored a free when
Brendan McLaughlin was brought down and then he
scored an excellent effort from out wide and another
close range effort with Stephen Doherty getting the
other from the right. Glenswilly to their credit
responded with Darren McGinley and two points from
the young Paul O’Brien after beating his man to the
ball and firing over first time to stretch the lead
out to four. Byrne added a late consolation point
for Malin who now face Ardara at home in their next
game. Final score Glenswilly 1-09 Malin 0-09.
