DANIEL O'Donnell is
hoping his stint on Strictly Come Dancing helps
brings peace to the North as both Catholics and
Protestants vote to keep him in the hit BBC show.
With people in the Republic unable to vote for the
53 year old each week, the Donegal crooner is
relying heavily on his fans across the border to get
him through.
"This might be the first time the Falls and the
Shankill vote for the same person," Daniel joked.
The Kincasslagh singer made his remarks in an
interview with BBC NI presenter Stephen Nolan who
quipped: "You might be able to unite the Catholics
and Protestants of Northern Ireland."
Daniel, who recently became a step-granddad, said he
was humbled by the huge level of support he has
received so far in the dance competition.
He said he was amazed to hear that people were
crossing the border each week while others were
sending money to friends and family in the North to
cast votes for him on their behalf.
"Isn't that amazing? I've been very fortunate
through the years with the people who have followed
what I've done and the music. They have been
tremendously loyal and supported everything that
I've done. Even for Strictly, people that maybe
wouldn't really like the music are saying 'we'll be
voting for you'. So it's looking good," he added. |

Grease was the word for
the balladeer and his professional partner Kristina
Rihanoff (38) as they danced the cha, cha, cha on
Saturday night to the song ‘Summer Nights’. The
couple received a judges' score of 21 out of 40 -
their lowest to date - with mixed criticism about
the competency of Daniel's third live performance.
Former prima ballerina and judge Darcey Bussell told
him to exaggerate his moves more while head judge
Len Goodman told him his 1950s-inspired performance
didn't manage to create any 'Greased Lightenin'.
Meanwhile, Daniel continues to receive huge support
from wife Majella (55) who tweeted after his
performance: "The standard of dancing on BBC
Strictly is fantastic. Well done Daniel and
Kristina. You did great! Jay McGuiness was
excellent. Well done." She said she would look
forward to Daniel's efforts in the Foxtrot next
week. Daniel survived again on last night's results
show with boxer Anthony Agogo the second celebrity
to leave the competition.
Daniel's dance partner said his efforts continued to
inspire huge pride in her as a teacher, adding that
ballroom routines suited him better than Latin.
"(Daniel) is a non-dancer trying his best. And he
did so good," Ms Rihanoff tweeted. |
