School for would-be women politicians 14.07.15

DONEGAL women who may be considering running for election next year are being invited to take part in a three-day residential school aimed at boosting female participation in Irish politics.
Women accounted for just 15% of the candidates in Donegal during the 2011 general election, according to the organisation, Women for Election.
Its director of operations and campaigns Suzanne Collins urged more Donegal women to "get equipped for the general election".
“Five candidates have officially selected in the new Donegal constituency and so far only one woman is on the ticket. In 2011 only three of the 20 candidates who ran in across the two Donegal constituencies were female accounting for 15% of the ticket and no women TDs were returned to Dáil Éireann," said Ms Collins.
"Any other women who are considering running for election in Donegal or who are intending to run campaigns would enhance their chances by taking part in our three-day residential campaign school, EQUIP 2015. It is supported by The Ireland Funds and will take place in Athlone from September 7-9."
Women for Election director of operations, Suzanne Collins.
EQUIP 2015 will have a wide range of workshop facilitators and speakers including Nan Sloan of the Centre for Women and Democracy; Orlaith Carmody of Mediatraining.ie; Irish Times columnist and political commentator Noel Whelan; former Tánaiste, Mary Harney and Tánaiste, Joan Burton TD.
A scholarship scheme to help potential candidates with the costs of attending has been extended until July 24. For more information, contact equip@womenforelection.ie .
