SIXTEEN Donegal dogs
will be re-homed across the UK after being collected
this week from an animal shelter that is "bursting
at the seams".
Dogs Trust UK travelled across the Irish Sea to
collect the pooches including collies and
husky-crosses from Animals in Need Ltd., based in
Donegal Town.
The sanctuary has rescued a whopping 234 stray or
unwanted dogs from the Donegal pound so far this
year and all its services and foster homes are at
breaking point.
The centre said Dogs Trust UK stepped in to help in
their "darkest hour".
"We were absolutely delighted when the Dogs Trust
offered to help with the re-homing of 16 of our
rescued pound dogs this week.
"A huge thank you to the Dogs Trust and a special
thanks to Mr Martin who co-ordinated the Dogs Trust
ambulance travelling from the UK to Donegal Town to
collect the dogs and then transporting them to their
state-of-the-art re-homing centre where they are
sure to be found the best, most loving home a dog
could wish for," the shelter said in a social media
post.
The dogs first had to be prepared for transport and
were fully compliant with Department of Agriculture
travel regulations including passports and
micro-chipping before departure.
The animals also had to be kept in foster care for a
mandatory 21 days before travelling to Britain after
getting their rabies vaccinations.
"The 16 lucky dogs arrived safely at the Dogs Trust
homing centre after a comfortable journey in the
Dogs Trust ambulance and we wish them all long and
happy lives with their new families. Once again,
many thanks to the Dogs Trust for helping in our
darkest hour," added the centre. |
