A CHARITY supporting
suddenly-bereaved parents and families has said that
Christmas is "often far from a time of peace,
happiness and goodwill" for people who have
experienced the sudden death of a child or young
person.
FirstLight acting head of bereavement Margaret
McGoldrick said: "Many bereaved parents find the
run-up to Christmas – with all the accompanying
anticipation – more difficult to cope with than the
actual day itself. Christmas can be a painful time
whether it’s your first year without your child who
has died, or you were bereaved many years ago. You
may feel lonely and isolated and feel in
contradiction to the festivities that surround you."
FirstLight is reaching out to bereaved families this
festive season saying: "If you’re finding it hard to
cope with day-to-day stuff then it may help to talk
to a professional who specialises in dealing with
the sudden loss of a child or young person."
FirstLight offers professional, qualified and
confidential services free of charge nationally. It
supports parents and families who have lost a child
or young person, regardless of the circumstances.
"We know the darkness that consumes anyone who loses
a child. We’ve been there. And for 35 years we’ve
been helping people through those darkest moments,
helping them find the first flicker of hope...the
FirstLight."
