BUSINESS leaders from
eight towns and counties including Donegal will
today demand that the Government honours its
promises to upgrade the N4 and N5 routes.
They say economic development is being "hampered"
because roads that connect the Midlands to the North
West of Ireland are badly in need of repairs and
require upgrading to motorway status in sections.
The ‘N4/N5’ chambers of commerce – representing
Donegal, Athlone, Mayo, Mullingar, Longford, Sligo,
Carrick-On-Shannon and Roscommon will present their
case at a meeting in Buswells Hotel, Dublin from
11am today.
They will argue that the current state of the roads
is putting the North West and West at a disadvantage
in attracting foreign direct investment and creating
jobs. They will also demand that the road upgrades
be included in the Government’s 2017 Capital
Spending plan.
"The N4 is a vital lifeline to the West and North
West of Ireland for industry, commerce and tourism.
It is a major gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way and
to the proposed Centre Parcs facility near
Ballymahon," said a spokesperson. |
