DONEGAL County Council
has issued an appeal today to buy up vacant and
derelict parcels of land for social housing around
the county.
The local authority invited expressions of interest
from land owners with green and brownfield sites in
eight towns including Buncrana, Clonmany, Glenties
and Stranorlar.
It is also looking for land in Ballybofey, Donegal
Town, Falcarragh-Gortahork and Ramelton.
The council said the vacant or underused sites
should ideally be within walking distance of a school,
church, shops and other facilities.
They should also be "favourably zoned", i.e.,
suitable for immediate residential development;
serviceable and directly accessible from the public
road. The sites should generally be level or only
have gentle slopes.
"Landfill sites, contaminated ground and sites prone
to flooding will not be considered," the council
said in a statement.
"Any land purchased will be subject to good title,
Departmental approval and funding availability."
Interested parties are asked to submit maps, title
deed information, site sizes and site history to the
council by May 27, 2016.
