A clean-up operation is
underway in a bid to salvage some of the charity's
much-needed belongings.
“Our operations centre is totally destroyed and
everything is gone. Over four-and-a-half foot of
water damaged everything inside," said Irish Red
Cross director of units Martin McKinney.
"The floods have damaged many homes and in some
cases people have lost everything," he added.
Despite their own ordeal, Donegal Red Cross
volunteers have been out assisting families
devastated by the 'once-in-a-century' weather event.
The charity also urged people in need to contact any
local volunteer for emergency assistance.
Meanwhile, Irish Red Cross national headquarters
appealed for donations from the public to help
people affected by the floods. Donations can be made
at
www.redcross.ie/donate or on 1850 50 70 70. |
