AN event is to take
place later this week in Greencastle in solidarity
with the people of Gaza in Palestine.
The ‘Shore To Shore Solidarity’ initiative was
originally set up as a humanitarian response "to the
atrocities created by the intensified bombing of
Gaza" in the summer of 2014.
The killing of more than 100 people last week in the
deadliest day in Gaza since then, has prompted the
organisers to hold another local solidarity event to
highlight the plight of victims.
"Sadly, the oppression and displacement of the
Palestinian people continues apace with further
massacres of innocent people being perpetrated in
recent times," said an event spokesperson.
'Shore to Shore Solidarity' will take place in
Greencastle with music from Spring Tides, Ceolan,
High Class Hobos, the Foyle Wailers, Plumdiggedy and
many more individual singers, songwriters, poets and
performers. The evening "promises to be one to
remember".
"The generous response from everyone we have
approached to take part has been so heart-warming,
from the venue owners to all of the performers.
People have been greatly moved by the terrible
on-going plight of innocent Palestinians and are
eager to do what they can to help. When asked if
they would take part, one young performer replied,
‘I am doing this for the children of Palestine,’"
said a spokesperson.
The event will be held in Kealy’s Seafood Bar,
Greencastle, on Thursday, May 24, 2018 starting at
7.30pm. Admission is by voluntary donation and all
monies raised will be divided equally between The
Freedom Theatre in Jenin and Medical Aid for
Palestine. For more information please contact: 086
