Relaunch of Men’s Shed Carn 16.09.19

THE Men’s Shed Carn is inviting men and women of all ages from the Carndonagh area to come along to the relaunch of their community-based initiative at the Old Co-Op on the Moville Road premises from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday, 26th September 2019.
The aim of the open night is to provide information on the exciting range of activities, projects and courses on offer at the Men’s Shed Carn and to encourage new members to sign up. They also want to hear the views of the local community on what activities and projects they would like to see offered in the shed.

The Men’s Shed Carn project, hailed as a huge success and key community hub for local men in the years following the recession, has been built on strong foundations developed over the course of the past seven years. Established in 2012, following a series of meetings by local men and supported by Inishowen Development Partnership, it has operated successfully and is currently undergoing a review to look at how best to service the local community and to adapt to the needs of people from the Carndonagh area.
The group has been involved in a wide range of projects since its inception ranging from health and safety courses, computing, boat-building, genealogy, woodwork, electronics, fundraising events, to social outings including a trip to the Titanic Museum in Belfast. In the past number of months they have also started to run weekly music nights on Mondays from 8pm. The men's shed has also opened its doors to the new Syrian community who have been resettled in the Carndonagh area.

Conor Doherty, Chairperson of Men’s Shed Carn project said: “Ever since the award-winning DJ & local celebrity Michelle Doherty gave the ‘thumbs up’ to our project at the official launch in 2012, our renovated premises at the Old Co-Op has represented an important ‘community hub’ for men in the local area.
“Indeed, this project has been a fantastic initiative aimed at helping tackle social isolation and promote the health and wellbeing of local men – in particular in the years following the recession and economic downturn when employment was scarce or non-existent.
“Importantly, the Men’s Shed Carn project has always had an ‘open door’ policy since its inception – providing local men (school leavers, employed, unemployed or indeed retired) with a welcoming and supportive environment where they have been able to immerse themselves in projects or expend their energies with a great sense of ‘togetherness’."
The new opening times for the Men’s Shed Carn are as follows:
Monday: Music Night 8pm - 11pm
Tuesday: 10am - 12noon & 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Wednesday: 10am - 12noon
Thursday: 10am - 12noon & 1:30pm - 4pm
Friday: 10am - 1pm & the Cards Night 8pm - 10:30pm
