Search underway for missing GP 08.01.19

DONEGAL gardaí have begun a land search and excavation in the Milford area as part of a search for a female GP who has been missing since 2009.
Gardaí are liaising with the family of Dr Deirdre Donnelly O'Flaherty and a liaison officer has been provided to them.
The Tyrone-based medical practitioner (46), who had a history of depression, vanished without trace after being reported missing from the remote Kinnego Bay area of Inishowen on January 11, 2009.
Dr Deirdre O'Flaherty who went missing at Kinnego Bay on January 11, 2009. In 2012 a High Court judge in Belfast used new legislation - The Presumption of Death Act 2009 - to declare Ms Donnelly O'Flaherty officially dead, after drowning in a suspected suicide.
At the time, members of her family said the judgement brought them some solace.
The latest search will be carried out by members of the Donegal Divisional Search Team and Garda Technical Bureau along with private contractors.
It is expected to last up to five days.
"This development continues to form part of a missing person investigation and there is no change of status regarding same. An update will be provided when the search is completed," gardaí said in a statement this morning. They added that the family of the missing woman have requested privacy at this time.
