Search underway for missing GP 08.01.19
DONEGAL gardaí have
begun a land search and excavation in the Milford
area as part of a search for a female GP who has
been missing since 2009.
Gardaí are liaising with the family of Dr
Deirdre Donnelly O'Flaherty and a liaison officer
has been provided to them.
The Tyrone-based medical practitioner (46), who had a history of
depression, vanished without trace after being
reported missing from the remote Kinnego Bay area of
Inishowen on
January 11, 2009. |

In 2012 a High Court
judge in Belfast used new legislation - The
Presumption of Death Act 2009 - to declare Ms
Donnelly O'Flaherty officially dead, after drowning
in a suspected suicide.
At the time, members of her family said the judgement
brought them some solace.
The latest search will be carried out by members of
the Donegal Divisional Search Team and Garda
Technical Bureau along with private contractors.
It is expected to last up to five days. |
"This development
continues to form part of a missing person
investigation and there is no change of status
regarding same. An update will be provided when the
search is completed," gardaí said in a
statement this morning. They added that the family
of the missing woman have requested privacy at this
time.
