Gorse fire alert in Inishowen
23.04.19
LOCAL fire brigades
have attended gorse fires in the Carndonagh and
Buncrana areas of Inishowen on Sunday and Monday. There was
concern that if some fires had not been brought under
control they could have spread towards nearby homes.
Donegal County Council is appealing to land owners
and members of the public, in Inishowen, to exercise
caution to prevent gorse and heather fires. The
local authority warned that out-of-control fires had
the potential to put lives at risk and threatened
wildlife.
The notice of high fire risk (condition orange)
remains effective for all areas where hazardous
fuels such as gorse, heather, dried grasses and
other dead vegetation exist.
A wildfire broke out at approximately 6am yesterday
at Annagry in West Donegal and continued to burn
yesterday afternoon in the Annagry, Belcruit and
Loughanure areas. Fifteen fire appliances from
twelve brigade areas were deployed at the scene. |

unattended fires immediately to the Fire Service by
dialling 999 or 112.

the public in Inishowen not to engage in activities
that could cause wildfires.
