MAG speak at conference in USA
07.10.19
ON Saturday, the
Inishowen based Mica Action Group (MAG) attended the
Crumbling Basements conference in Connecticut, USA.
MAG is a voluntary group formed in early 2014 by
individuals whose own homes are cracking due to
defective blocks. The objective of the group is to
seek redress for homeowners affected by this issue.
Ann Owens (Chair) and Eileen Doherty (PRO) of MAG
brought the issue of the defective blocks to an
international stage by speaking at this US
conference. |

Ann Owens said, "Today
we spoke at the Crumbling Basements conference in
Connecticut on the mica issue.
"We were joined by a number of groups (or
coalitions) who are also fighting for justice for
their homeowners in the US (Connecticut and
Massachussets) and Canada (Quebec) and are
encountering similar challenges to ourselves.
"The parallels in all of these cases is simply
astounding. There were many lessons we have learnt
from today's conference and hope to bring some of
these to our campaign and equally hope we have
shared some of the things that MAG have done well
through this journey.
"As I said at the end of my speech 'Ni neart go cur
le cheile' which means 'we are stronger together'.
Indeed after today, it is clear that this
international partnership can result only in
benefits for all concerned." |
