FIANNA Fáil TD for
Donegal Charlie McConalogue has called on the
government to put a timeline in place for the
promised MICA redress scheme. Homeowners in
Inishowen are still waiting to find out when the
scheme will become operational so that they can put
plans in place to remedy their homes.
In October 2018 the Mica Action Group (MAG) had
welcomed the long awaited statement from government
that they will provide a redress scheme for
homeowners in Donegal affected by defective blocks.
Deputy McConalogue commented, “The latest reply from
the Housing Minister claims that “work is well
underway” and that he intends to “revert to
Government with proposals for the scheme as soon as
possible”.
“This response is extremely vague and will not ease
the anxiety being experienced by affected
homeowners. The Minister had previously promised
that proposals would be presented to the Government
before Christmas. It’s now January and we appear to
be no further down the track on this issue.
“Minister Murphy needs to set a commencement date
for the scheme now, and remediation must begin early
this year.
“This redress scheme has experienced delays every
step of the way. It is imperative that a scheme is
set up as soon as possible – these homeowners have
already been waiting too long. The redress scheme is
needed now”, concluded Deputy McConalogue. |
