Ever thought about starting your
own business?

IF you’ve ever thought
about starting your own business, but weren’t quite
sure where to start, then you need to be part of one of
the Start Your Own Business programmes being hosted
in September by Local Enterprise Office, Donegal.
The programmes are aimed at people thinking of
starting their own business or in the early stages
of start-up who can demonstrate that they have a
well-researched business idea that they are capable
of commercialising.
Previous participants have been full of praise for
the help they have received from the course.
“After doing the kick starter course and then the
Start Your Own Business Course it was hugely
beneficial in that it really gave you a good
grounding of what would be expected in the
commercial sphere working for yourself.
The one to one mentoring was invaluable. You need to
have that access to somebody who can elevate your
thinking a little bit,” Eamonn McFadden from Glass

Nicola Laughlin from
Act One Drama School, based in Letterkenny and
Carndonagh, said the programme really highlighted
the work that needed to be done to get a business
off the ground.
“There is no winging it or luck, you have to work
hard to make a business succeed and have a plan to
work to. The Start Your Own Business course really
made the plan very clear. I would 100% recommend it
and I already have.”
The programme involves four one-day sessions with
the support of up to 4 hours mentoring and will run
on Wednesday 11th September, 18th September, 2nd
October & 9th October 2019.
A Saturday option is also available with that
programme starting on Saturday 21st September and
continuing on 28th September, 12th October & 19th
October 2019.
Head of Enterprise in Donegal, Michael Tunney urged
anyone thinking of starting a business to enrol in
one of the programmes before all places were taken.
“We know from the past what an important role this
programme plays in giving a solid foundation to
start-up businesses. On successful completion of the
programme participants should have a sound knowledge
of the rudiments of business start-up, have
developed a mini start-up business plan and be in a
position to go about their start-up in an effective
way. I really would urge anyone thinking of starting
a business to make the most of the opportunity.”
That is a sentiment echoed by previous participants.
“For anyone considering starting your own business
I’d say that there is a very basic platform you need
to push on from. You’d have to troll for a lot of
that information online or other academic courses,
but this is a nice concise course that really does
set a good foundation to help you understand the
basics and move on from there,” Eamonn McFadden
added.
