'Signs of
Biodiversity' at Dunree

THIS year's Culture Night
was very different to others with many of the scheduled
events being adapted to online offerings. On Friday,
18th September, Artlink hosted a very successful
socially distanced 'Signs of Biodiversity' event at the
Amach Anseo community garden at Fort Dunree.
On a warm sunny evening a small group of people gathered
in coloured masks with sanitised hands to celebrate and
learn about biodiversity. They perused the impressive
'bug hotel' made by participants of the ETB funded class
with the help of Boomtree Bees' Michiel Verspuij. A
selection of pollinator friendly plants such as
wallflowers and shrubs, from Colm Grant, were on offer
to good homes. Hand-painted, informative and cheerful
signs by participants who attended Daniel Gallanagh's
class were dotted around the space. |

The Potting Shed hosted a
exhibition of watercolour drawings by Rebecca Strain of
pollinator friendly plants including dandelions, and
seeding vegetables.
Changemakers Donegal delivered an inspirational speech
about the good work being done at Dunree and how we are
all connected under the same sky. Gráinne O'Neil and
Danielle Bonner facilitated a conversation about
Sustainable Development Goals and what was most
important to the local area.
A seed swap took place in the polytunnel where
participants could take or leave seeds that they had
harvested or no longer needed.
The highlight of the evening has to have been the
Climate Clamour Choir who sang their hearts out and had
many people joining in with them. This community choir
sing about caring for the earth and taking action in
face of the climate crisis. As twilight faded to night,
the joy of the event spread out beyond the walls of the
garden. |
