Covid19 - Donegal moves to level 3 restrictions 28.09.20

DONEGAL has been placed on level 3 of the Government’s Plan for Living with Covid-19 from last Friday, September 25th, for a period of three weeks. People in Inishowen have been asked to adhere to these increased public health measures and gardaí in the county have recommenced Operation Fanacht which is focused on supporting public compliance with these restrictions.

Operation Fanacht will see a high level of visibility of gardaí in Inishowen to support the public health guidelines, particularly in relation to social distancing and gathering in large groups at amenities. Targeted Garda checkpoints will be established throughout the county and the public are being encouraged not to travel out off or into Donegal unless absolutely necessary.

Gardaí will also continue to work in co-operation with the Police Service of Northern Ireland to support public health efforts to reduce the spread of Covid-19 on the island of Ireland through rolling cross-border checkpoints in relevant locations.
The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Rena Donaghey along with the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Brian Tierney are pleading with people in both areas to adhere to the new guidelines introduced by the respective governments, saying we must do everything we can to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Basic ways to protect yourself:
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub
• Practice good respiratory hygiene, that is, when coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue
• Discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands
• Maintain physical distancing, that is, leave at least 2 metres (6 feet) distance between yourself and other people
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth – if you touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your contaminated hands, you can transfer the virus from the surface to yourself
• Reduce your social interactions
