Carn woman walks Donegal Camino 11.09.20

FOR many years Peggy Stringer has walked parts of the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St James) in Spain. With the lockdown not allowing her to travel to Spain this year, Peggy decided to do her own Camino in County Donegal with the aim of raising money for Cancer Care West and the Letterkenny branch in particular.
Peggy Stringer, nee Kelly, is originally from Carndonagh and has developed a successful skin care business in Dublin. She is also vice president of the Donegal Association and a strong supporter of all that the organisation does for Donegal people throughout the world.
At the end of August, this year, Peggy began her Donegal Camino. She set out, from her beloved Inishowen, with the help of a few friends at Malin Head and eight days later finished up at the cliffs of Sliabh Liag, Carrick.

Peggy's Donegal Camino started at Banba’s Crown, Ireland's most northerly point and the 160 km trek would she her finish at Sliabh Liag, the highest accessible sea cliffs in Europe. Day one allowed her to see the beauty of her home peninsula taking in the beautiful beaches of Inishowen including the lovely Five Fingers Strand. She made her way over the Urris hills in Clonmany and into Fanad, over Knockalla and Portsalon to Fanad Lighthouse following along the Wild Atlantic Way and the Rossguill Peninsula and onto Ards Forest Park. Climbing up Errigal is a challenge any day but Peggy, having been walking for five days headed up on a windy and a wet September day.
Day seven saw Peggy in Ardara for the penultimate challenge, a 12km walk on the Sheskinmore Nature Reserve between Sandfield and Rosbeg, where she saw some amazing scenes of untouched natural scenery.
The final day of Peggy's Donegal Camino was to Sliabh League. Local popular hill climber and tour guide Kevin Maguire led Peggy and her friends into the mountains of Glencolmcille starting at the top of Sliabh Liag and finishing some five hours later down the Pilgrims Path to the Rusty Mackerel.
Peggy is a determined lady when she says she is going to do something she surely does it and this past week, she has raised over €5000 for the local cancer charity.
