IRISH Water, working in
partnership with Donegal County Council, is
progressing the Buncrana Sewerage Scheme, which will
reduce the risk of flooding from sewers and improve
water quality in Lough Swilly.
To rectify the long-standing issues of flooding,
overflow and capacity deficiencies they are planning
to upgrade the sewer network to ensure that any
discharge to Lough Swilly meets all appropriate
discharge standards. The addition of planned storm
water storage will also reduce the risk of overflows
during storms as a result of this investment.
Eunan Canavan, Capital Programme Regional Lead,
explained: “This project is of vital importance for
Buncrana. The upgrades to the sewerage scheme will
safeguard the environment and water quality in Lough
Swilly as well as providing a platform for the
future growth and development of Buncrana.
“We will continue to engage with the local community
as these projects progress with a view to delivering
them with the minimum amount of disruption, while
delivering the maximum benefit to the people of
Buncrana.” |
