Book explores Irish
working class life
06.07.21
A number of writers from
the North West, including Inishowen, feature in a new
book exploring the experience of working class life in
Ireland.
'The 32: An Anthology of Irish Working-Class Voices'
includes international best-selling author Claire Allan
from Derry, award-winning Bundoran-born writer, Stephen
O'Reilly and Buncrana-born journalist and writer,
Linda McGrory.
The book includes a mix of memoir and essay and is
edited by prize-winning novelist and short story writer
Paul McVeigh @paul_mc_veigh from Belfast. |
|
The eagerly-awaited
anthology has sixteen new or emerging voices featured
alongside sixteen established authors such as Kevin
Barry, Roddy Doyle, June Caldwell and Danielle
McLaughlin.
McVeigh received permission to include a piece by the
young investigative journalist Lyra McKee, who was
fatally shot during rioting in Derry in 2019.
'The 32' features a wide range of stories from north and
south and demonstrates the many shared experiences of
working class life on the island as well as the nuances
and differences.
There is a strong thread of humour, resilience and
solidarity throughout. |
'The 32' will be launched
online this Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 7pm. A number of
its contributors will be there on the night with short
readings and a Q&A. The event is free and everyone is
most welcome to attend. Please register here:
