Clonmany ‘Childhood
Memories’
04.04.23
THE Clonmany Genealogy and
Heritage Group will present their first exhibition of
the year, entitled ‘Childhood Memories’, in the Market
House, Clonmany, on Saturday and Sunday, 15th to 16th
April 2023. The exhibition will feature photos,
documents and objects and will allow people to recall
times past and explore how things have changed since
then. |

The Group has been
gathering a collection of photos, documents, artifacts,
objects and memories for many weeks and looks forward to
making these available for the local community to enjoy.
An important part of the exhibition will be an
opportunity for people to have their own memories
recorded and added to the archive.
Kathleen Graham, Chairperson, stated: “We are looking
forward to getting our 2023 programme underway with this
exciting exhibition. It will allow people of all ages to
recall how things were when they were children. The
material on view in the exhibition will hopefully
provide a stimulus, allowing people to remember their
own childhoods, and we can add these memories to our
archive”.
The exhibition will cover many decades of memories and a
large range of subjects will on view, including things
we learned at school, games we played as children, the
types of food we ate, the clothes we wore, what sweets
and ice cream were available, the cars people drove, TV
programmes, films, music, sport, local personalities,
religious events, local entertainments and many, many
other things.
Kathleen added “The Group would love to hear from
anyone who would like to contribute to the exhibition,
whether it is by providing a photo or an object, or by
giving information about some past event or childhood
memory”.
In addition to the exhibition, the Group is delighted to
announce two additional attractions. On the opening day,
Saturday 15th April, an introductory workshop on
genealogy will take place. Anyone who is interested in
starting a family tree can come along and you will be
able to get all the help you need to get started.
Another exciting addition to this year’s exhibition is
the opportunity to get a DNA test done. A genealogist
will be on hand with DNA kits, which members of the
public will be able to purchase. It is recommended that
you book your place for the DNA project, so that enough
kits will be available and nobody goes away
disappointed.
So, be sure to come along to the Market House in
Clonmany for a great weekend of history, heritage and
genealogy, and an opportunity to discuss old times.
