A book of condolence
has been opened for the late snooker star Alex
Higgins at Derry’s Guildhall.
Derry Mayor, Cllr Colum Eastwood paid tribute to the
Belfast-born ace and said the book would provide
fans across the city and district with an
opportunity to pay their respects to the sportsman.
Higgins, who won the world snooker championships in
1972 and 1982, was found dead in his flat in the
Sandy Row area of his native city on Saturday. He
had suffered from throat cancer for ten years.
“Alex Higgins was a fantastic snooker player who
contributed to putting the sport on the
international stage. He was one of the great
characters and he will be fondly remembered for his
unique style of play and colourful life,” said Cllr
Eastwood.
The book will be open from 9am to 5pm daily at the
Guildhall until the end of this week. |
