MUSEUMS, local radio and other community projects in Inishowen are this week celebrating the renewal of their contracts worth a total of more than €500,000.
The four-year contracts have been renewed by Minister for Social Protection Eamon O Cuiv under the Community Services Programme 2011-2013.
The organisations to benefit under Tranche II are Fort Dunree Military Museum Ltd, Buncrana (€89,099); Inishowen Community Radio, Carndonagh (€127,165); Inishowen Maritime Heritage Co., Greencastle (€89,099); Muff Community Development Co-operative Society (€38,066) and Tullyarvan Mill Project Buncrana, €38,066.
The Maritime Museum and Planetarium in Greencastle gets allocation of over €89,000.
Tranche III ensures that Greencastle Community Development Co. Ltd, will receive €38,066 while there was also positive news in the Rollover Contracts section.
Those to benefit include Carrowmenagh & District Development Association Ltd (€28,549); Colgan Community & Resource Centre Ltd, Carndonagh (€38,066) and Glengad Community Centre (€38,066).
Senator Cecilia Keaveney said the allocations were an "important boost" to groups working within the community in a variety of sectors.
"I believe that the nature of the Minister's engaging with those who are at the heart of managing and running these community ventures really is a model for top-down/ bottom up mutual benefit," she said.
"I have sat through many meetings and never ceased to be impressed by the striving to maximise the lengths to which small monies can be stretched effectively and efficiently. I wish all the groups well in delivering their programmes in the coming years."
