Film explores Border working conditions 24.11.10

THE stories of Donegal security personnel including Irish soldiers, gardai and customs officers who were stationed along the border during the Troubles feature in a new film to be launched on Monday.
The film is called 'A Place to Talk and Tell' and has been produced in DVD form, supported by the Peace III programme as part of the Donegal Peace and Reconciliation Partnership. Work on the project began many months ago with a film crew visiting towns including Buncrana, Ballyshannon and Bundoran to record the stories of ex border service personnel, their wives, partners, sons and daughters.
In August, 1969, the then government made the decision to send its troops to the border to set up field hospitals. During that time, many thousands of border service personnel served on or along the border and the new DVD examines the resources they had at their disposal and the conditions they worked under.
Michael McCormack of the Ex-Border Service Personnel Association (EBSPA) said:
"EBSPA wish to make it clear that this DVD/film is not about criticising any of these services, but will seek to reflect the time and conditions these men, and later women, would work in for the next 30 years."
The launch will take place in the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny. For more information, please contact Michael McCormack on 086 2208491 or email: ebspa10@gamil.com .
