Calling yacht race thrill seekers
13.09.10
PEOPLE interested in
taking part in the Clipper 2011-2012 Round the World
Yacht race are being encouraged to attend a
recruitment session next week in Derry.
The recruitment presentations will be hosted at the
City Hotel by members of the Clipper team. As well
as talks, video footage will show what life is like
on board.
The recruitment process comes just weeks after the
announcement that Derry is to become part of the
Clipper Round the World Yacht Race when it will be
an official host port.
The city will welcome the ten strong fleet in July
2012 and will also have an official destination
yacht in the race. It will also host a showcase
maritime festival to welcome the Clipper fleet at
the end of their homecoming transatlantic leg, ahead
of the official finish in August 2012. |

Crew recruitment
manager, David Cusworth, explained that
participation in the Clipper Race is a
once-in-a-lifetime experience. More than 200 people
have already expressed interest in taking part.
“The Clipper Race is the only place you’ll find
stockbrokers and housewives racing against taxi
drivers, engineers, farmers, students and chief
executives. And if you have never sailed before,
don’t worry. Before the start of the last Clipper
Race, 40% of the crew were complete novices and a
comprehensive training programme is mandatory for
all those who participate," he said.
The recruitment sessions will take place at the City
Hotel on Monday, September 20 and Tuesday, September
21. |
