DONEGAL-based cancer campaign group CCC(NW) has welcomed news that an access officer has been appointed to the the National Cancer Screening Service.

CCC(NW) has, during its meetings with the NCSS and locally with HSE West, highlighted the difficulties some women with disabilities experience when accessing BreastCheck and CervicalCheck services.

“Since the roll-out of BreastCheck and CervicalCheck in Donegal we have received several calls from women who feel that their disability hinders them from accessing screening services," said spokesperson Noelle Duddy.
"We are therefore very pleased to learn that an access officer has been appointed to co-ordinate assistance for women with disabilities and that additional time will be offered to women who have specific needs to be considered during a screening appointment, for example, if a woman has breast implants, mobility issues, has a visual or hearing impairment or has an

intellectual disability.”
Ms Duddy added: “Should a woman wish to contact the assess officer to discuss her individual situation all she has to do is phone the NCSS on 1800 45 45 55 and ask to be put through to the access officer.
“CCC(NW) encourages women to ensure they are on the register of women who are eligible for breast and/or cervical screening by contacting the same number given above.”
