PEOPLE in Inishowen
will have an opportunity to grill the Labour Party
on their policies when they launch a major
door-to-door survey of voters in the county.
The '30-second survey' will be launched on Saturday,
May 22, and is being heralded by Labour Party
activists as “an ideal method to canvass voters“ and
determine what the important issues are for the next
general election. The survey is expected to last
around six weeks and will coincide with similar
information-gathering in all the major towns and
cities in the West.
Cllrs Jimmy Harte and Frank McBrearty will be
handing out the voter survey as well as answering
questions on Saturday afternoon at various locations
in Donegal North East and Donegal South West.
Labour Party activists will descend on a number of
central locations in the towns and villages as well
as going door-to-door asking for 'just 30 seconds'
of people's time.
Recent Labour convert, Cllr Harte said he was
“excited“ about meeting voters.
“Weare a party that listens, but along with meeting
voters, I hope people will take the time to fill out
the survey. Their opinions are very important to us
and will help shape the focus of my campaign and
that of the Labour Party,” he said.
Cllr McBrearty added: “This is a simple introductory
step to meet, listen and engage many
potentially frustrated voters. The basic idea is to
focus on building up trusted local voter
relationships and a more meaningful understanding of
the concerns of voters.
“Mr Cowen’s recent conversion on the road to
Damascus, like his sums, just don’t add up, and it’s
rather late in the day for the Taoiseach to admit
failings, when thousands have lost their jobs and
thousands more have emigrated. Thanks, but no
thanks, Mr Cowen, but I’d rather you kept your
half-baked apologies to yourself,” added Cllr
McBrearty. |
