Carn woman celebrates debut EP

A YOUNG Carn woman is realising a lifetime ambition
by forging a successful career in music.
Lorraine McCauley (30), a former pupil of Carndonagh
Community School, has just released her debut EP,
‘Haunt Me’, which features four original songs
penned by the talented Inishowen singer-songwriter.
The middle daughter of Patrick and Marion McCauley,
Lorraine has been lighting up the stages across
Glasgow and Edinburgh, where she lives, for the past
three years.
A review after a recent show at the Liquid Ship,
Glasgow, was glowing:
“One woman and a guitar who leaves songs stuck in
your mind is rather less common. Such a woman was
Lorraine McCauley. Perhaps it was her Celtic blood
or maybe the delicate nuances of her voice but she
gave something spiritual and uplifting to her
audience.”
Lorraine displayed an early music talent before
honing her singing career over the years.
“The first stage I sang on was in the Lilac
Ballroom, Carndonagh, for the O’ Doherty Clan Feis,
when I was only four! Then I grew up singing in
feiseanna all over Donegal and Derry with Vera
Butler as my teacher,” she said. |

“For the last five
years I have been writing and performing my own
songs. I have been singing and learning my craft at
various gigs across England and Scotland.”
Releasing her maiden EP has proved the zenith of the
Carn girl’s promising young career to date.
“It is great to have finally finished my first
record after months of going to the studio before
work at 6am! It has also been amazing to form my own
band and play gigs together in Edinburgh and
Newcastle. We’ve been getting a really good response
so far,” Lorraine said.
Lorraine was full of praise for her band, which is
set to play its first musical festival at the end of

month.
“The guys are all extremely talented. They have
written their own parts to some of the work, really
bringing it to life,” she said. The burgeoning
artist said Inishowen remains home.
“I go back to Inishowen as often as I can and with
my little sister’s wedding coming up I’ll be home a
lot more over the coming year. I hope to play at
home soon, we are hoping to put on a wee tour around
Ireland in a few months time.“ Lorraine's EP can be
