PEOPLE in Co Donegal
earn less money than those living anywhere else in
Ireland, new figures show.
A county-by-county breakdown of the Central
Statistics Office table show that residents of
Tánaiste Mary Coughlan's constituency earn almost
€3,000 less than workers elsewhere in the country
and €5,000 less than people in Dublin.
Donegal people also have the lowest disposable
income in the country at €18,070 compared to the
national average of €21,694.
The border counties of Cavan, Monaghan and Leitrim,
along with Roscommon, Westmeath, Laois, Carlow,
Kilkenny, Tipperary North and Clare all have incomes
that are between 5% and 10% under the national
average.
Meanwhile, unemployment is also hitting Co Donegal
and other border counties harder than others due to
their reliance on traditional industries such as
farming, fishing and construction.
The CSO figures are based on household income on
wages, salaries, income from self-employment and
State payments. |
