New book praises Clonmany coastal

A NEW book telling the
story of the Clonmany coastline is to be launched
tomorrow evening in Ballyliffin. The book is simply
called 'The Clonmany Coastline' and has been written
by archaeologist and historian Rosemarie Doherty,
who is from the area.
It contains folktales, songs and stories of
shipwrecks and other losses.
There is also a section on food from sea and the
best ways to bring it to the plate. |

The book was
commissioned by the Clonmany Town Renewal Committee
with funding from the Inishowen Development
Partnership and the Department of Communications,
Energy and Natural Resources.
Prominently featured is a series of interviews with
local fishermen.
"These (interviews) are offered to the people of
Clonmany as a reminder of a dying way of life," says |
Ms Doherty.
The book was designed, compiled and written by
Rosemarie.
It will be launched at Trasna House, Ballyliffin, on
Friday, March 12, at 8.00pm. The launch will be
performed by former Irish Ambassador James A.
Sharkey who has also written thte foreword to the
book.
Ms Doherty describes Mr Sharkey's foreword as an
ideal compliment to "the fortitude, endurance and
eloquence of those from the coastal community of
Clonmany who have gone before". |
