Fears for Buncrana Nursing Unit 19.03.10

A BUNCRANA councillor says he has been assured that the future of the Buncrana Nursing Unit is secure.
Cllr Pádraig MacLochlainn raised the matter following local fears the vital care unit might close.
“In recent weeks, concerned members of the local community have contacted me with fears that the unit would be closed," the Sinn Féin councillor said today.
"I undertook to raise their concerns with senior HSE management and to make clear that the people of Buncrana would fight any possible closure tooth and nail. This is a vital part of our local community for so many families and especially our elderly."
The Buncrana-based councillor has now requested a meeting in the next few weeks between HSE management and local councillors. The HSE will be asked to outline its future plans for the unit and reassure the public in Buncrana of its continuation.

Cllr MacLochlainn said: “I have now received assurances from senior HSE management that, while there is a review of all community services, Buncrana Community Nursing Unit is not under threat.
"However, I have requested a meeting in the next few weeks to enable the HSE managers to further assure all of our local councillors of their plans for the unit.
“I will be monitoring this issue very closely in the time ahead and I will be asking all in Buncrana and South Inishowen to do the same," he added.
