Remembering road crash victims

PARC road safety group
is to host a special inter-denominational ceremony
in Buncrana Youth Centre, Castle Avenue at 2pm on
Sunday, November 21 to mark World Day of Remembrance
for Road Traffic Victims.
The event will be opened by Noel Brett CEO of the
Road Safety Authority.
PARC founder and chairperson, Susan Gray, invited
everyone to attend and said the ceremony would
remember all those who have been affected by
collisions on Ireland's roads.
"The injured and the relatives of those killed are
particularly welcome. We hope that as many as
possible can come out and show their support to
victims, their families and the emergency services
on the day," said Ms Gray. |
"There will be an
opportunity during the ceremony for all those
present who have lost a loved one to light a candle,
which will be provided, and to dedicate it in their
memory and to enter their names in our Book of
Remembrance. Photographs of a lost loved one may be
taken along and included in the ceremony."

A candle will be lit
for each dedication during the Day of Remembrance
ceremony and also added to the Book of Remembrance
for road crash victims.
197 lives have been lost on Ireland's roads to date
this year including 19 on Donegal roads. Inishowen
has seen multiple fatalities this year, the most
recent being the worst since records began when
eight men lost their lives in a single collision at
Glasmullen, Clonmany. "We in PARC feel it is so
important to support all victims and their families
in the aftermath of such traumatic events," added
Susan Gray.
**Mock road crash in Buncrana
A MOCK road traffic collision will take place in
Buncrana the following day to mark European Road
Safety Week. The simulated crash, involving all
cross border emergency services, will take place at
Shore Front on Monday, November 22, at 2pm. The same
drill will take place earlier in the day at
Guildhall Square in Derry. Donegal County Council
said that skills displays on the day would show the
work undertaken by the emergency services at the
scenes of accidents and would highlight what happens
to victims of crashes. |
