RENOWNED songwriter Phil Coulter will give a special
performance in the Church of All Saints in
Newtowncunningham next year.
The Derry musician will sing at an event to mark the
publication of a book celebrating the 10th
anniversary of the landmark chapel.
Donal Campbell who is on the organising committee
said: “The ceremony is intended to mark the
publication of the book about the church which was
dedicated more than 10 years ago.
“It is planned to mark the occasion by holding a
ceremony in the church and Phil Coulter has agreed
to perform.”
He added: “This is great news for Newtown and when
the event was announced at the weekend there was
great buzz going around the village. |
“It is exciting that we
have secured Phil Coulter to perform at the ceremony
and it will definitely add something special to the
occasion.”
The one-off event will take place on Friday, October
21 next year.
Donal added: “We know it is early to be announcing
the date but we felt that such a special occasion
deserved good advance notice.”
The coffee table-style book will be available at a
date to be confirmed next year.
The Derry songwriter composed a special piece of
music when the church was originally dedicated in
1999. |

The building was
architecturally designed to resemble a ship, based
on St Peter's Barque. It is symbolic of the Catholic
faith sailing into the third millennium.
The chapel was completed at a cost of €1,200,000 but
that was repaid thanks to community fundraising
activities, interest-free loans and a pledge system. |
