€250K works underway in Clonmany 29.09.10

A MAJOR €250,000 project is underway in Clonmany to include the construction of half a mile of new pavements and the installation of 19 street lights.
The work is taking place along Chapel Glen to the top of Gaddyduff Road while a significant part of the Clonmany-Ballyliffin Road will also be resurfaced.
The run up to Christmas will also see preparation works for a new pedestrian footbridge near the Riverside Park area.
Cllr Charlie McConalogue said the work was long-awaited. He praised the quality of the work undertaken so far.
“Work has started recently on the completion of the footpath along Chapel Glen in Clonmany to the top of the Gaddyduff Road and, in all, over a ½ mile of footpath will be laid. The job will also see the erection of 19 street lights along the stretch and will deliver a much needed amenity for the local area,” he said.
Chapel Glen resident Danny McLaughlin (Turner) on site at the new footpath works with Cllr Charlie McConalogue, left, and former councillor Denis McGonagle, right.
“The job sees the recommencement of work which began on the footpath in early 2009 before funds ran short. Former councillor, Denis McGonagle, put a lot of effort into getting this project off the ground and I am delighted that the additional funds have been secured so it can now be followed through to completion. In all, around €250,000 will be spent on the footpath and resurfacing of the road.”
The Gleneely-based councillor added: “It will be a busy Autumn for the village as work will also commence before Christmas on preparation works for a new foot bridge to improve safety for pedestrians particularly those living in Riverside Park.
“Clonmany Development Association have been working very closely with the Council in progressing this project and preparation works will begin on site this Autumn with the objective of having the footbridge completed next year.”
