Hurlers hope to ‘Erne’ final spot 24.06.10

by Harry Walsh, for Inishowen Independent

DONEGAL hurlers travel to Omagh on Saturday afternoon to take on Fermanagh in the semi final of the Lory Meagher Cup - throw-in 1.30pm.
Team manager Andrew Wallace, who named his team after training last Monday evening, has made two changes to the team which defeated Warwickshire last time out with Danny Cullen (Setanta) and Steven Boyle (Buncrana) coming in for Eugene Orgen and Sean McVeagh, both St Eunan’s.
“The lads are just seventy minutes away from Croke Park. That should be incentive enough for any player,” Wallace said.
“We did one hour’s physical work with Tyrone’s John Lynch followed by an hour of stickwork on Sunday while Antrim coach George O’Kane took the lads for an hour’s stickwork on Monday. I named the team after training on Monday and they’ve been given the rest of the week off so they should all be fresh come Saturday,” Wallace said.
“We crammed a lot of stuff into those two days. We’ve the stickwork done and the lads are all fit. Now it all depends on how they perform on the day. Fermanagh play in the league below us but if we don’t give them the respect they deserve on Saturday afternoon we could be in for a rude awakening,” he warned.
Beaten by a point in the final against Tyrone twelve months ago, Wallace and his players would dearly love another day out at Croke Park where they would play the winners of the Longford verses Leitrim semi final.
“There’s no point looking beyond Saturday’s game but, yes, it would be nice to get back to Croke Park. It’s now up to how we perform on the day.”
Donegal v Fermanagh: Paul O’Brien; Mark Patton, Colm Breathnach, Justin McGhee; Jamsie Donnelly, Joe Boyle, Barry Friel; Ardal McDermott, Mickey McCann; Niall Campbell, Enda McDermott, Steven Boyle; Lee Henderson, Danny Cullen, Michael McGhee.
