A primary school in
Inishowen is to get an additional teacher, its been
confirmed.
Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle is among a number of
schools in Co Donegal that are to gain an extra post
from through a Government scheme to allocate 200
extra posts between primary and post-primary levels
in the current school year.
The move was welcomed by Seanad education
spokesperson Senator Cecilia Keaveney.
"Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle, would have been one of
the primary schools that had increased enrolments in
the current school year and who, as a result of last
year's parent teacher ration change, lost out on a
teaching post in the current school year by less
than three pupils," explained Senator Keaveney.
"Following consultations with the education
partners, 100 posts are now being allocated at
primary level, one to Naomh Fionan."
Department approval for Naomh Fionan's additional
post will be issued to the school in the coming
days.
Other schools to gain in Donegal are, St Francis NS,
Barnesmore, Donegal Town, SN Dun Ceannfhaolaidh Dun
Ceannfhaolaidh and Scoil Mhuire Rathmealain.
Senator Keaveney added: "This will be welcome news
to the principals, teachers, parents and students
alike. It is important to see continuing supports
for all levels of our education system in the
county.
"Indeed the Departmental emphasis on the recognition
of Letterkenny as a point of development for new
schools is an indication that the good news for
Donegal will continue even in financially difficult
times," she added.
Deputy Niall Blaney also welcomed the educational
boost in his constituency.
“I am delighted that two schools in Donegal North
East have qualified, namely Scoil Naomh Fionan,
Whitecastle, Quigley's Point and Scoil Mhuire,
Rathmealltain.
“I know the news will be welcomed by the schools'
boards of management. The additional post allocation
will help them meet the demands of increased
enrolments," he said. |
