IT was a tragic weekend
in Co Donegal with a total of four people dying in
road accidents and a fire. A father and son died on
Saturday morning in a two-car collision at the Slab
Road junction, Burt, shortly after 10am. They were
named as John Gallagher, 55, and his son Sean, 24,
from Ramelton. They were killed when their Ford
Mondeo was involved in a collision with a Skoda
Octavia. The Octavia was driven by a 59-year old
woman. She was taken to Letterkenny Hospital where
she was described as in a stable condition. The
night before, a male pedestrian was struck by a car
around 7.40pm in Carrigart. The 60-year-old, named
locally as Billy Boyce, from Carrigart, died on his
way to hospital. Meanwhile, the county awoke
yesterday to yet another tragic incident following
the death of a young man in a fire in Bunbeg.
The fire broke out at a mobile home in the west
Donegal village around 6.45am. The victim who is in
his 20s, was from the locality. A forensic
examination took place and Gardaí are continuing
their investigations.
Meanwhile, Gardai have warned drivers to slow down
as some roads in the county were in a dangerous
condition due to overnight snow and sub-zero
temperatures. |
