A WRESTLING-mad Buncrana boy is on cloud nine this
week after scooping a card, signed by his hero, WWE
star, Rey Mysterio.
Six-year-old Eoin McGlinchey got the surprise of his
life when he opened a packet of ‘Slam Attax’ trading
cards and discovered that one was autographed by the
Mexican-American wrestling sensation.
The rare hand-scribbled card is one of only 100
worldwide and now takes pride of place in the
McGlinchey household. |

Scoil Iosagain pupil,
Eoin, said that he always reaches to the bottom of
the box when he is buying his wrestling cards in an
attempt to get lucky. It was his dad, Shaun, who
struck gold on this occasion however, when he
stopped into Cullen’s shop to treat his son last
Sunday.
Eoin is a regular in Cullen’s on the Cockhill Road,
where he spends all his spare cents on the
collectable tokens.
“Every Thursday my parents give me €2 so I buy two
packets. |
I use any extra money I
get to buy some more cards,” he said.
His mother, Julie, joked that Eoin would buy the WWE
trading cards every day if he had his way!
Rare autographed wrestling cards can fetch upwards
of £100 on ebay but Eoin intends to frame his piece
of good fortune.
Ironically Eoin and his brother, Adam, received Rey
Mysterio masks this week, when their uncle came home
with gifts for the boys from the United States. The
Buncrana brothers will also travel to see their hero
at Dublin’s O2 Arena next month.
Eoin, who says he wants to be a wrestler when he
grows up, proudly watches WWE action every day and
his favourite stars are Rey Mysterio, The
Undertaker, Cain and the Great Khali. The smiling
six-year-old also has 33 collectible action figures
and 3 wrestling rings!
“My daddy was watching wrestling on the TV one day
and I liked it straight away. I have been a big fan
ever since,” Eoin said.
Brother, Adam (9), said it is hard to stop watching
wrestling once you start! Budding fans, Josh (3) and
Jude (1) complete the WWE-mad Buncrana family. |
