by Damian Dowds, Inishowen

CHRISTY MOORE, the godfather of Irish folk, will
play The Plaza in Buncrana on Thursday 11 June, the
Inishowen Independent has exclusively revealed. His
Plaza gig is part of a tour to promote his new album
‘Listen’, which has received rave reviews from fans
and critics alike. In 2007, Christy was honoured as
Ireland’s greatest living musician at the Rehab
People of the Year awards.
Coming on the back of the successful Republic of
Loose gig last month, it is a real signal of intent
by the Plaza as it attempts to re-establish itself
as one of the North West’s leading music venues. |

And the Plaza is coming
under new management, with Buncrana-based promotions
company PinkBlue taking over the reins at the end of
the month.
Pink Blue Promotions Managing Director, Ross Cutler
says, “Buncrana and Inishowen are a heartland of
commercial and community activity and I want to
liven that up with an entertainment hub within the
Plaza community venue.”
“The Plaza has an exciting history, but for many
years has been lying idle and its potential left
untapped,” he continued. “PinkBlue Promotions will
revive the community venue to its former glory |
by bringing exciting
acts and bands to suits all ages and all tastes.”
Mr Cutler paid tribute to outgoing Plaza manager
Sara Mai Leech for bringing Christy Moore to the
Buncrana venue. “It’s quite a coup. It’s fantastic
for the venue and the town.”
The PinkBlue Promotions and Plaza launch event will
take place on Saturday 23 May with Ireland’s top
hypnotist and world-renowned show performed by
Adrian Knight.
Tickets for the Christy Moore gig will go on sale
next week. |
