Molloy golden handshake
"sickening"
28.09.09
A DONEGAL senator has
described the retirement package given by the
Government to former FÁS chief executive Rody Molloy
as "sickening".
Senator Pearse Doherty said:
“The golden hand-shake received by Rody Molloy which
the Tanaiste Mary Coughlan personally signed off on
is sickening. What is just as alarming is that she
did not even consult legal opinion to question if he
was entitled to any of this severance package that
is worth over a million euro," said Senator Doherty.
“The actions of all embroiled in this scandalous
affair are truly frightening and insulting to the
thousands of families and workers struggling to
provide their essential daily needs. |
“After having stood
over the squandering of taxpayers’ money at FÁS for
so long, Mr Molloy was rewarded an additional 4.5
years of service to his pension to bring him to the
maximum 40 years of service required to receive a
full pension. This is a badge of honour for Fianna
Fáil government cronyism." The Sinn Féin
representative said, by contrast, ordinary Donegal
people who had lost their jobs often had no pension
back-up at all.
“Where was the Government intervention and support
when, for example, thousands of workers here in
Donegal, many in |

Ms Coughlan's own
constituency were let go with little and in some
cases no redundancy at all? It was in backroom
negotiations with Rody Molloy, fluffing up his nest
egg and giving him a pat on the back," blasted
Senator Doherty.
Meanwhile, the former FAS chief tendered his
resignation on Friday as chairman of the board of
the Institute of Public Administration. Mr Molloy
has been IPA chairman since the middle of last year. |
