DONEGAL'S Earagail Arts
Festival is issuing a call to ballroom dancers in
the North West to dust off their dancing shoes and
get ready for the spotlight.
Leading Irish director Michael Scott wants local
people to take part in his production of 'Dancing at
the Ballroom of Romance' and to work alongside the
cast, led by Mary McEvoy. Michael Scott says the
show recalls a time when every country community in
Ireland had a ballroom “within reach of every
bachelor boy and hope-filled girl, no matter how
distant their farm or homestead". But this is no
ordinary theatre show, and you will be asked to don
your finest Saturday night threads (from the 50’s,
60’s or 70’s of course), and transport yourself back
in time as Ramelton Town Hall Theatre is transformed
into a classic dancehall, complete with festoon
lighting and live band.
The performance combines theatre, music and dancing
and you can be part of the act or simply enjoy this
uniquely nostalgic piece of theatre. From the
original acclaimed production by City Theatre,
Dublin and the Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, this is
a very Donegal take on the dancehall phenomena and
ballrooms where love blossomed.
The director plans to spend over four weeks
rehearsing a local community cast to join the
professionals before opening night on July 4. So if

session at Ramelton Town Hall theatre on Saturday,
May 16, 2009, at 2pm to answer any questions and
