Malcolm in middle of fridge climb caper 14.03.09

TWELVE cool dudes from Carndonagh are planning to climb the highest mountain in Wales sporting the latest in stylish "fridge ware" during the ascent.
Malcolm Carey, Finghin (Glackin) Doherty and ten of their friends will climb the 3,560ft Mount Snowdon on Easter Saturday, April 10, to help people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.
They have vowed to take the fridge with them on their sponsored climb if they manage to raise €7,000 and will even take along a freezer if they make it to €10,000. Malcolm, who is a monumental sculptor with Wardstone in Carn, explains how he landed himself in the middle of the charity climb caper.
"Finghin has been planning the climb for a while now but the idea to take the fridge with us came about when I recently dressed up as a fridge for a fancy dress birthday party," he said.
He said MS Ireland was chosen as the charity because some of the group's families have been affected by the condition. "MS Ireland needs a lot of funding because not a lot is known about the condition and it affects families very hard,” added Malcolm.
The lads will also hold a draw when they come home after the climb.

One entry for the draw will be received for every €10 donated online with two entries to the draw for €20 donated etc. Prizes for the draw are a €2,000 granite kitchen worktop from Wardstone; €750 and €250.
MS Ireland helps the 7,000 people living with the debilitating condition around the country. Their work is only made possible through the assistance provided by a wide range of volunteers and supporters. Meanwhile, Malcolm, Finghin and friends will head off to Wales the day before the climb - taking the fridge and freezer along with them on the ferry. Malcolm, 31, explained that they got the two machines free of charge from the Carndonagh Civic Amenity site. As for the comfort of wearing them while climbing a 3,560ft peak, he said: "Actually, they're quite warm inside because of the insulation and they're light when you take out the motors and all the interiors. We'll take it in turns to wear them going up the mountain." To find out more visit
