The sad passing of Fr
Joe Morris has taken place in Carndonagh Community
Hospital. Fr Morris was born in Greencastle, Co
Tyrone on the 23rd day of December 1928. After
attending Greencastle Primary School, Omagh CBS and
St Columb's College he studied for the priesthood
for the Derry Diocese in St Patrick's College,
Maynooth.
He was ordained by Bishop Farren on the 4th April
1954. Immediately after his Ordination he was
appointed as curate in Termonamongan (Aghyaran) and
he served there for seven years. In 1961 he was
transferred to Carndonagh where he remained to 1964.
From Carndonagh he moved to Clonmany where he
ministered as curate until 1988. He was appointed
Parish Priest of Clonmany in 1988, an appointment he
retained until 1996 when he was transferred as
Parish Priest to Culdaff where he remained until he
retired in 2004.
Fr Morris spent his retirement in Culdaff and died
peacefully on Sunday night after a very short
illness in Carndonagh Community Hospital. His
remains will be brought to St Mary's Church, Bocan
on Tuesday, 24th November, for funeral Mass on
Wednesday at 12.00 noon with burial afterwards in
Clonmany. |
