Chilling radio drama on ICRfm 06.04.09

A CHILLING radio drama based on a true story of love and obsession in Carrigans in 1938 will be aired on ICRfm on Easter Monday, April 13.
‘The Tragedy of Dunkeer House’ is based upon actual events that took place in 1938 on the outskirts of Carrigans and tells the story of a mother's obsessive love for her only son and the shocking lengths to which she is prepared to go to prevent his marriage. The drama, written and directed by Stan McGowan, recently enjoyed hugely successful sell-out runs at The Playhouse Theatre and The Millennium Forum in Derry.
The story follows Richard McPherson, son of Alice and Colonel Robert McPherson, who is engaged to be married to the beautiful Helen Kirkwood. The news is not met with approval by his over-protective mother. When Richard is severely injured in a horse riding accident it seems that the wedding will be cancelled, however no-one has anticipated the young lovers’ determination to marry.
Soon the stage is set for a terrible and shocking denouement as Alice, driven to the edge of despair and madness, takes matters into her own hands to prevent the wedding in any way she can.
The radio version of ‘The Tragedy of Dunkeer House’ was produced for ICRfm by Marie McDonald who works at the station. The drama was adapted for radio in the ICRfm studios in Carndonagh. "All members of the cast from the stage production were more than enthusiastic about becoming involved in creating the play for another medium and thoroughly enjoyed the experience," said Marie.
The drama will be broadcast on ICRfm - 105 and 107.6fm - on Easter Monday at 12pm or log on to www.icrfm.ie and click on ‘Listen Live’.
